Affiliate disclosure
Last updated: 2 November 2026
The short version. Some links on psst, JAPAN are affiliate links. If you buy or book through one, the company pays us a small commission. You pay the same price as you would without us. Affiliate links are marked Affiliate link next to the link, and the page that contains them says so at the top.
Why we say this. This disclosure follows the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255), and Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (景品表示法), including the October 2023 rule on undisclosed advertising ("stealth marketing"). In plain terms: when money is involved, you get told.
What the commission is. A percentage of what you pay, or a fixed amount, paid to us by the seller or by an affiliate network acting for the seller. It comes out of the seller's margin, not your price. We don't see your name, card or booking details.
What the commission doesn't change
- What we list. We choose products and places by one test: would a first-time visitor buy or book this anyway? If yes, we compare the options that exist, including ones that pay us nothing.
- What we say. If a product has a catch (a plan that starts counting the day you install it, a hotel area that's dead at night), we write it down. A fee doesn't buy a kinder sentence.
- The order. Our "short answer" at the top of a page is the one we'd give a friend. It isn't sorted by commission.
- The facts. Prices, plans and times are read on the seller's official page, and the page shows the date we read them. We don't quote prices we haven't seen.
What we never do. Put affiliate links in our newsletter, in Instagram captions, in direct messages or in replies. Links to sellers live only in articles on this site, where this notice is one click away. We don't run sponsored posts dressed as articles; if a page is ever paid for, it will say "Sponsored" at the top.
Programs we take part in. We're applying to affiliate programs run by A8.net (a Japanese affiliate network) for eSIM sellers and hotel booking sites. Until a program approves us, links go to the seller's own site and carry no label and no commission. We'll list approved partners here when they go live.
Cookies. Clicking an affiliate link may let the seller set a cookie in your browser so it knows you came from us. We set no affiliate cookies ourselves. See our Cookie Policy. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; the links still work.
