Ordinary car, adult. JNTO.
It's a fixed-price pass for JR trains, including most shinkansen. Since October 1, 2026, it costs more, so do the math first.
What to know
- The nationwide pass comes in 7, 14 and 21-day versions, in Ordinary or Green (first) class.
- New prices from October 1, 2026 (adult / child aged 6–11):
- Ordinary 7 days: ¥53,000 / ¥27,000
- Ordinary 14 days: ¥84,000 / ¥42,000
- Ordinary 21 days: ¥105,000 / ¥53,000
- Green 7 days: ¥74,000 / ¥37,000
- Green 14 days: ¥116,000 / ¥58,000
- Green 21 days: ¥147,000 / ¥74,000
- The 7-day Ordinary pass went up ¥3,000, from ¥50,000.
- The pass only makes sense if you're covering long distances. Price the individual tickets on your actual route before you buy.
- Big suitcases on the Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu shinkansen: up to 160 cm total (length + width + height) needs no booking. Between 161 and 250 cm, reserve a seat with an oversized baggage area. It costs nothing extra, but turning up without a reservation costs ¥1,000. Anything over 250 cm isn't allowed on board.
psst, the pass doesn't cover your luggage space. Book the oversized-baggage seat when you reserve your shinkansen seat, or ship your suitcase ahead and travel light.
